How To Use DIY Spray Foam Kits
Procedures to use the IsoSpray DIY Spray Foam Kit System
“START UP” - PROCEDURE
1) Make sure that the kit has a temperature of 20-24°C when you want to
use it. Both the isocyanate and polyol drums should have 20-24°C to
have good foam.
2) Shake the kit before you use it.
3) Put the cylinders in the upright position, with valves on top.
4) Attach the hoses of the gun (Handi Foam GHA). The red hose on the
isocyanate (A component, red hose), the black hose on the polyol (B
component, black hose).
5) Put a little Vaseline on the end of the gun where the nozzle has
to be attached. This is done to make sure that no Foam is formed
between the nozzle and the gun (this would cause the gun to leak).
6) Attach the nozzle to the gun. To do so place the lip of the
nozzle in the groove of the gun. Now gently push the nozzle back until
you hear a characteristic “click”.
7) Open the all the valves and begin working using light pressure on
the spray gun trigger and getting used to the rate of spray as more
pressure is applied to the trigger. Experiment first before spraying a
large area, move fairly quickly as you spray.
“DURING USE”- PROCEDURE
1) When you take a break for more than one minute (60 seconds) you
will have to change the nozzle as the foam will cure in the nozzle head
rendering it redunant for further use. If you don’t change the used
nozzle (cured foam will block the nozzle) a “crossover” of product will
occur. This “crossover” will block the hose and will break the gun
giving foam with a wrong mixing ratio (foam will not expand or not
cure).
“STOP WORKING”- PROCEDURE
1) Close the valves when you stop working.
2) Leave the hoses of the gun under pressure, leave the product in
the hoses do NOT empty them. If you leave the hoses under pressure and
full, you will prevent that moisture can get inside the hoses. If to
much moisture enters the hoses it will react with isocyanate (A
component, red hose). This reaction will give you hard, crystallized
isocyanate and will block the red hose of the gun. If this happens
change the gun ASAP.
3) Leave the used nozzle on the gun. This will once again prevent moisture to get in.
“STORE AWAY”- PROCEDURE
1) A used kit can be used for 5 months after initial use if stored in a dark and dry environment.
2) The gun has to be used every 2 weeks, even if the hoses are
stored under pressure. If it takes longer then 2 weeks before fresh
isocyanate has entered the red hose. The isocyanate will react with
infiltrated moisture and block the gun.
3) To prevent that the gun has to be changed often to make sure that
fresh isocyanate is in the red hose every 2 weeks. An alternative is to
clean the red hose with “Handi Foam cleaning oil 10L” (U 41024) after
you have used the gun.
“CLEANING”- PROCEDURE
1) When using the “Handi Foam cleaning oil 10L” (U 41024).
2) Close the valves on the isocyanate and polyol.
3) Detach the red hose from the cylinder with isocyanate. Leave the black hose on the cylinder with Polyol.
4) Clean the connections of the hose and cylinder with “Handi-Foam Foam cleaner 500 ml” (U 40003)
5) Attach the red hose to the cylinder with cleaning oil.
6) Open the valve of the cleaning oil. (keep the valve of the polyol closed).
7) Pull the trigger of the gun until you see that all the isocyanate has been replaced with cleaning oil.
8) Close the valve of the cleaning oil.
9) Leave the red hose on the cleaning oil until you want to start
foaming. Then put the red hose back in the cylinder with isocyanate and
follow the “start up”-procedure.
