Roof Insulation - A Free Investment?

Roof Insulation firm Iso-Spray (http://www.foam-insulation.co.uk) have commissioned a survey amongst small and medium businesses throughout the UK to find out the awareness of the business benefits of “roof insulation”. Don’t laugh, it is true! And true for good reason too. A well insulated industrial building can save the owner £1000’s over the years. Most pre 1980’s industrial buildings can provide a 100% pay back on the foam insulation cost in a matter of 3 to 5 years. The same is true with domestic roofs.

Iso-Spray specialise in applying spray foam polyurethane for industrial and domestic roof insulation, wall insulation, roof stabilisation and sound proofing. Polyurethane insulation foam is the best commercially available insulation product with a superior cost to payback profile. It is over 3 times more effective as an insulator than traditional insulation materials but without the drawbacks or health problems. Sprayed foam insulation is also a sealer and so is better suited to the new, more demanding 2006 Building Regulations than traditional insulation products. The new regulations not only require lower U values for walls, floors and roofs but because air leakage in buildings is a major source of energy loss, the new regulations also require buildings to be relatively air leak proof. Sprayed polyurethane foam is ideal as it provides the lowest U value per depth of any commercially available insulator and also seals and prevents air leakage, something no rival insulation product can do. It is also the easiest product to retro fit and with the least disruption to the occupants.

The initial survey results reveal that the majority of UK businesses are not aware that the pay back for polyurethane foam insulation is between 3 to 5 years. Businesses are also not aware that interest free loans are available for sprayed polyurethane insulation projects that can produce a pay back within 5 years or less. So, a business can be given the money up front and interest free to pay for the insulation and then pay the loan back with the energy savings made. A costless investment and one that produces a positive return to the business in as little as 3 to 5 years as the annual savings made are for the life of the building. A no brainer investment decision, the cost is paid for by the savings, effectively a free investment.

Iso-Spray provides a business energy efficiency advice service and will calculate the cost and savings of the investment. Once these are established an interest free loan can be arranged for qualifying businesses if required. Roof insulation is typically the very first place to start when insulating a building since this is the biggest single factor for heat loss. It is also the investment that is likely to produce the biggest returns.
